Ko tō tūranga – your role

As the Cloud FinOps Engineer at One NZ, you’ll play a pivotal role in driving financial accountability and operational efficiency across our hybrid and multi-cloud environments—including AWS, Azure, Snowflake, Salesforce, and GCP. Your expertise in cloud financial management and cost optimisation will empower teams to make data-driven decisions that enhance business outcomes.

 

You’ll collaborate closely with AI Engineering, Technology, and Finance teams to shape and execute cloud financial strategies, foster a culture of cost ownership, and deliver insights that promote transparency and performance.

Ko tō mahi – what you’ll do

  • Enhance BI and cost analysis tools to deliver real-time insights and automate FinOps workflows.
  • Build tools for continuous monitoring and scenario modeling to guide cloud investment decisions.
  • Automate key FinOps capabilities including anomaly detection, forecasting, budgeting, and tagging.
  • Produce high-quality reports on cloud usage and spend to support leadership visibility and ROI tracking.
  • Implement tagging and account structures for effective cost allocation and governance using platforms like AWS Cost Explorer and Azure Cost Management.
  • Define and implement FinOps standards to optimize cloud spend while maintaining service quality.
  • Collaborate with Architecture teams to embed cost-awareness into solution design.
  • Partner with engineering and project teams to estimate cloud and SaaS costs for evolving workloads and migrations.
  • Align commercial and operational goals by partnering across Engineering, Finance, Procurement, and Cloud Operations.
  • Support contract and license optimization in coordination with vendor management.
  • Lead workshops and training sessions to build FinOps capability and foster a cost-conscious culture.
  • Mentor engineering teams to embed FinOps practices and align with One NZ’s financial objectives.

Na tōu rourou - what you’ll bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Finance, or related field.
  • Proven experience in FinOps, cloud financial management, or cloud engineering.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS, Azure, Snowflake, Salesforce, and GCP.
  • Strong grasp of cloud billing models, cost optimisation, and FinOps frameworks.
  • Proficiency in Python, SQL, and BI tools (e.g. Power BI, Grafana, Tableau).
  • Experience with IaC tools like Terraform and cloud-native monitoring platforms.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to influence across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Proven ability to manage cloud cost efficiency at scale in a multi-cloud enterprise.
  • FinOps and cloud platform certifications are a plus.
