Ko tō tūranga – your role

As the Financial Accounting Lead, you will play a pivotal role in upholding the financial integrity of the organisation by leading the preparation of financial statements, overseeing monthly group reporting, and ensuring compliance with NZ IFRS. You’ll be at the forefront of audit readiness, lease accounting, and financial governance—championing best practice and robust internal controls that safeguard our assets and reputation.

 

Beyond technical expertise, this role is about leadership and continuous improvement. You’ll coach and develop a direct report, collaborate across finance and business teams to deliver insightful accounting advice, and drive innovation in financial systems and processes—including the use of AI to enhance accuracy and efficiency.

Ko tō mahi – what you’ll do

  • Lead and develop the financial direct report, providing coaching, guidance and performance feedback to foster continuous development.
  • Responsible for the half year and annual preparation of financial statements including reporting to the Audit Committee.
  • Lead month-end and year-end close processes in the lease and group consolidation space in compliance with all relevant financial reporting regulations and policies.
  • Assist in managing external auditor relationship and audit processes.
  • Liaising with commercial finance and business owners to provide best practice accounting advice.
  • Ensuring integrity and completeness of monthly general ledger postings, including balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Establish and maintain robust internal control procedures in leases and group financial accounting space to safeguard company assets.
  • Evaluate, implement and optimise financial systems and processes (including through use of AI) to streamline operations and improve controls/accuracy.

Na tōu rourou - what you’ll bring

  • Experience in financial reporting with NZ IFRS and Tier 1 requirements. Including knowledge of consolidation and group accounting.
  • Strong technical accounting skills including a working knowledge of IFRS and its business application.
  • Exceptional analytical problem-solving skills and ability to work through and understand complex process flows, systems and changes management.
  • Ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks in a fast paced environment.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong understanding of systems, change management and process improvement. With the ability to identify inefficiencies and implement effective solutions to enhance operational processes.
  • Experience managing and developing people.
  • Effective stakeholder communications and ability to work collaboratively.
  • Big 4 audit experience, large company and/or Telco industry experience preferred.
  • Chartered Accountant qualification or similar.
