Ko tō tūranga – your role

The TDBA AI/Data Governance role is responsible for gathering requirements and performing analysis to support data governance initiatives that ensure the ethical, compliant and effective use of data and AI across the organisation. This role collaborates with the business and technical stakeholders to define policies, standards and controls that promote data integrity, quality and regulatory compliance while ensuring AI systems are transparent, fair and accountable. This role plays a key role in identifying risks, supporting responsible AI adoption and enabling data-driven decision-making within a well-governed framework.

Ko tō mahi – what you’ll do

  • Support the data governance function by ensuring compliance with the governance framework, policies, and standards.
  • Identify and address risks associated with data management and governance.
  • Collaborate on the development and maintenance of a data catalog, ensuring clear and accurate metadata documentation.
  • Monitor and report on data governance metrics while supporting the implementation of technical solutions.
  • Bridge the gap between business requirements and technical solutions.
  • Support Data Engineers and Architects with data solutions and pipeline design to meet business requirements.
  • Identify source data, source platform(s) and logical flow, clarify required fields, then document the required artefacts.
  • Document knowledge gained for others to benefit from in future work.
  • Support the Product Owner to manage stakeholders across using clear written and verbal communication.
  • Support the Product Owner to assess the desirability (customer value), viability (business value) and feasibility (realistic to build at scale and speed) of new use cases.

  • Strong knowledge of data engineering and data warehousing principles, techniques, and methodologies.
  • Effective relationship and communication (written and verbal) skills.
  • Ability to document processes and findings with clarity and precision.
  • Skills in identifying gaps and opportunities for value creation within Data Governance practices.
  • Understanding of Kimball methodologies.
  • Experience in a Scrum environment.
  • Experience in on-premises and cloud environments, ideally AWS and/or Azure
